What to see in Moraira

Moraira Castle

moraira castle

Moraira Castle is an 18th century fortress that sits atop a cliff overlooking the Mediterranean Sea. It was built by the Bourbons to protect the town from attacks by Barbary pirates.

The castle is shaped like an ox's hoof and has a semicircular façade. It's a perfect place to take photos and enjoy the views of the coast. You can also visit the interior, where exhibitions and cultural events are organised.

The beach of l'Ampolla

ampolla beach

Playa de l'Ampolla is the largest beach in Moraira. It's about 600 metres long and 30 metres wide. The sand is fine white and the water is crystal clear.

The beach is a popular place for swimming, sunbathing, and water sports such as diving, snorkelling, and kayaking. There are also several beach bars and restaurants on the beach.

Salt Giant

gigante de sal in moraira

The monumental sculpture “Gigante de Sal” by the artists Coderch and Malavia has found a new home in Teulada Moraira, Alicante. After a year in La Marina de València, the piece will be installed on the coast of the Alicante municipality, next to the sea, as a tribute to human fortitude in difficult situations such as the COVID-19 crisis.

The Mayor of Teulada Moraira, Raúl Llobel, said he was proud that the sculpture represents the rebirth of society and the capacity to overcome. The work, winner of the Queen Sofia Prize for Painting and Sculpture, has been exhibited in various European cities.

The sculpture “Salt Giant” is inspired by Fred Herrera's Butoh dance, which reflects human resilience after major catastrophes. Coderch and Malavia, international award winners, create hyperrealistic works from their workshop in Valencia, addressing issues such as environmental degradation and lack of equality.

The village of Moraira

The village of Moraira is a charming place with narrow streets, colourful houses and shops. It's a pleasant place to stroll around and enjoy the local culture.

In the village you can find several restaurants, bars and discotheques. There's also an 18th century church and an archaeological museum.
